Ronquillo-Naguit tandem all set to challenge Sambo

THE tandem of Gloria “Nina” Ronquillo and Jhong Naguit is set to challenge the hold of Mayor John Sambo in Santo Tomas town.

Ronquillo, a long time public servant, filed her certificate of candidacy for mayor of Santo Tomas while incumbent councilor Naguit is set to run for vice-mayor. Jhong is the brother of three-term mayor Lito.

The tandem of the two signals the political alliance of the influential Ronquillo and Naguit political machinery. The team is also backed by former mayor Lucas Arceo. Ronquillo said the alliance had been prompted by what the supporters have seen to be lacking in the current administration.

Asked for her comment, Ronquillo said she has long contemplated on her decision to run adding that the town deserves more in terms of social services. She added that the welfare of the people the town is at stake if not given a choice in the coming elections.

Ronquillo added that his team is composed of Mark Arceo, Angel David, Engelbert Euperio, Fidel Calma, Meriam Bonete Garcia, Josefina Pangilanan, Melanio Nuqui and Danilo Anicete.

Ronquillo said she will be focusing on programs for women, social services and more scholarship programs for the people of Santo Tomas.

Meanwhile, vice-mayoralty aspirant Jhong Naguit said that he will be advancing legislative work in the town council that will empower all sectors of the town. He added that his legislative agenda will compliment that of Ronquillo’s to further move the town forward in terms of programs and developments.

He added that if he is given a chance to lead as vice-mayor, his work will be centered on good legislative work that is relevant and pro-active.
