15th Acosta Cup kicks off Sunday

THE 15th Acosta Cup Ladies Football Tournament will kick off Sunday at the Tionko field.

Luna Acosta, legal researcher and daughter of Davao City Coucilor Mabel Acosta, told members of the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) during their weekly forum at The Annex of SM City Davao Thursday, said five teams will vie for the title this year.

The three teams are regulars while the other two are newcomers.

"Ang new team sa Acosta Cup kay RMC Bulldogs and CR& Food Truck (RMC Bulldogs and CR & Food Truck are the new teams)," she said, adding that cash prizes have yet to be finalized although they have more sponsors this year.

The Philippine College Technology (PCT)/GGS Enterprises will try to defend its title against the D' Davao Survivors, Sikat Alab FC and the two other squads.

Luna said her father Captain Reynaldo Acosta will lead the simple opening ceremonies as her mother will be going abroad on the same day.

Opening games will pit Sikat Alaba against RMC and CR & Food Truck against the D'D Survivors.

The tournament is in cooperation with Davao-South Regional Football Association (DSRFA) and backed by the City Mayor's Office, Ulticon Builders Inc., Norminring Motorbikes, St. John Paul II College of Davao, Anflocor, Medvil Farms Inc., Lapanday Foods, Vibrant Helipcopters Agricultural Corporation, Southern Tourist Inn, Kudos Trucking Corporation, Jollibee and RDL Pharmaceutical Laboratories, Inc.
