THE Lyceum of the Philippines-Davao (LPU-Davao) is eyed to open by June 2019 promising a global standard education for Dabawenyos.

LPU-Davao vice president and chief academic officer Felipe Balingit Jr. underscored the significant relevance of the establishment of LPU in Davao City as part of the academe’s vision of providing quality education outside the imperial vicinity of Manila and Luzon.

“Hangga’t maari serbisyuhan ang mga provinces through education. Ito rin ang isa sa mission ng ating mga founders na sina Jose P. Laurel and his son Sotero Laurel (As much as we can, we must serve the provinces through education. This is one of the missions of our founders Jose P. Laurel, and his son Sotero Laurel),” Balingit said during the topping off ceremony of LPU-Davao on Friday, October 19, 2018.

Balingit added the establishment of the university was brought upon by the suggestion of then Davao city mayor, now President Rodrigo Duterte to look on the possibility of expanding the academe here.

LPU- Davao will be offering college programs on allied medical professions, business and accountancy, engineering, computer studies, and international tourism and hospitality management. LPU-Davao will also be offering a senior high school program for Dabawenyos and other Mindanaons.

The location of the academic institution is part of a 17-hectare land development project called LPU Town Center. The township will have academic, residential, commercial, office, hotel, and convention components.

The LPU Davao campus will rise in a 5.2 hectare area of the back of the property; the front portion of the development will have the hotel and commercial components; and the center will have the offices and residential components. The campus can house 5,900 students.
