Hong Kong tourism players gear up

HONG Kong-based tourism players are getting ready as surge of tourists from Davao are expected following the upcoming air route between Davao City and Hong Kong on October 28.

The four-times-weekly flight will be served by Cathay Dragon, the regional airline of Cathay Pacific Group.

Harbour City assistant general manager for promotions and marketing Karen K.Y. Tam told SunStar Davao in an interview that they see the new route as another opportunity for both cities to boost tourism and trade relationships.

“We are excited and on high hopes that this will bring connection closer to two cities, make travel easier, and bring more Dabawenyos to Hong Kong and vice versa,” she said during a media dinner organized by Marco Polo Hotels – Hong Kong on Wednesday, September 19.

Marco Polo Hotels - Hong Kong’s director of communications Samantha Poon, in her presentation said, presently there is already a significant number of Filipinos visiting their country annually for both business and leisure activities.

For Davao City, foreign tourist arrival data increased to 126,209 of 2017 from only 124,863 tourist arrivals in 2016.

The Chinese belongs to the top 10 foreign markets in Davao City with 9,231 visitors in 2017.

Poon shared that with the upcoming direct flight, the hotel has prepared exciting activities and promos to promote the flight.

From October 11 to 13, 2018, Marco Polo Davao’s Executive Chef Alex V. Destriza will present authentic Filipino cuisine at Three on Canton’s nightly dinner buffet at Gateway Hotel. Destriza will showcase a selection of home-style dishes highlighting the Philippines’ treasures and tastes.

“We are excited to welcome new direct flights between Hong Kong and Davao because it is one of our target markets. We are delighted to present a Davao-themed dinner buffet to introduce authentic local specialties,” Dalip Singh, General Manager of Marco Polo Hotels – Hong Kong said in a statement.

The hotel also prepared special room promotions booking agents in the Philippines until October 15.Leisure travellers, he said, may also enjoy perks when staying at Marco Polo Hong Kong Hotel, Gateway Hotel or Prince Hotel from September 2018 until February 28, 2019.
