PERHAPS everywhere here in the Philippines, siopao is considered an easy, convenient snack. It can be bought anywhere from famous Chinese restaurants to our suki neighborhood bakeshop down the street. Often served hot from the steamer, siopaos are often present in office snack breaks, school recess, office meetings, or even afternoon father-son or mother-daughter dates.

Siopaos are basically white bun with chicken or pork meat inside and comes in asado or bola-bola selection. A usual siopao has a colored dot on top for distinction whether it is an asado or a bola-bola. But regardless of what it is, here in Davao City, siopao is really well-loved by the Dabawenyos.

For our #BestofDavao Siopao edition, we started a poll on Facebook to find out the top three best siopao in the city. After coming up with the list from the netizens, we asked help from our siopao-lover friends to pick the best of the bests. We invited over food blogger Tere Nierva, DavaoBase.com blogger Chito Joseph de Castro, and Mutya ng Davao 2018 Shelah Faye Juntilla.

After thorough tasting of the three siopaos and scrutinizing the bun, the meat, and the appearance of each one, the judges came up with a decision which Davao siopao is the best among the bests. It was decided that the Best of Davao Siopao Asado is that of Kuilans Foodhaus!

The judges especially loved the richness of the flavor of the meat inside the bun. Even when compared to the other two siopao, Kuilans Foodhaus’ was the smallest in size, the judges said it was just right and the serving will perfectly satisfy one’s hunger. They said this is better compared to other siopao that seemed big but are actually just mostly bun when you first bite it. Aside from the meat inside, there is also a slice of boiled egg inside which perfectly complemented the taste of the meat.

Kuilans Foodhaus has branches in Agdao, Obrero, V. Mapa, Matina, and Tibungco.
