MARAWI CITY -- Two private power generation providers have signed a P2-billion agreement for a power plant to be put up in Lanao del Sur in order to generate 10 to 30-megawatt electricity.

Frontier Power Technologies and Allied Services and Nepodragon Power Enterprises have agreed with the Royal Sultanate of Marawi to put up the emergency power plant in a three-hectare lot in Saguiaran, Lanao del Sur that may commence construction by next year.

Engineer Ryan Nepomuceno, general manager of Nepodragon, said that the Retail Competition Open Access (RCOA) was one of the reason behind for venturing in power generation in Marawi City and nearby towns. He said that there will be two phases for the project, the first one will be the construction of a diesel-generated power plant, and the second will be renewable energy-based facility that includes wind and solar-powered energy plants.

“Our role is simply to provide additional power, it will still be Lasureco (Lanao del Sur Electric Cooperative) that will collect the payments,” he said during the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement in Mindanao State University Marawi Campus on October 17.

Since the Royal Sultanate is a cultural entity of the Meranaw people, the Marawi Sultan Subair Mustapha, has planned to bring this up to local and provincial government officials as well as the Lasureco executives for further dialogues that would lead to the institutionalization of the project.

He said being one of the prime-movers of allowing the project to happen, the intention was to provide Marawi a better electricity service especially after the Marawi siege.

“With this kind of service I am giving them, (I am) looking for a greener pasture for the people of Marawi like (assisting in providing additional) electricity; this more of an assistance and help for the people of Marawi,” he said.
