Defection won’t affect friendship with Davide: Alegado

CONSOLACION Mayor Teresa Alegado is now with the One Cebu party after close to nine years of being allied with the Liberal Party (LP).

Alegado confirmed her departure from LP after filing her certificate of candidacy (COC) for vice mayor in next year’s midterm elections. Her son Joannes is running for mayor.

The two are running unopposed.

In an interview yesterday, Alegado admitted that she left LP for One Cebu and Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) to protect the town’s interest.

Alegado made the jump to the administration party last March.

Alegado admitted that it was painful for her to leave Gov. Hilario Davide III’s side.

“The relationship (with Davide) stays. But sometimes, you have to look after your base, and my base is Consolacion. If I will not be under the ruling party, luoy pud ko (then my political future could suffer),” Alegado added.

Even though she supports the gubernatorial bid of Third District Rep. Gwen Garcia, her friendship with Davide will remain.

Meanwhile, she said she is happy she and her son are running unopposed because she initially thought some of her political rivals would field a candidate against her son.

Alegado, who is on her last term, attributed the lack of opposition in her town to the programs and projects she implemented in the last eight years.

“Ang ganti ni sa pag-ampo nga naa lang unta tay kalinaw. Nga nakita nila nga atong serbisyo kinasingkasing. Wala sad ta nagpakasala sa katawhan ug sa Ginoo (This is my reward for praying for peace and security in the town. People have seen that I really do care for them. That I have not done them or God any wrong),” Alegado said. JKV
