8-A-Side Negros Elite Festival kicks off today

YOUNG and potential footballers in Negros Occidental will gathered Saturday, October 20, at the Sta. Maria Football Field for the 8-A-Side Negros Elite Festival.

Among the featured categories are boys (born 2002, 2004 and 2006), girls (born 2000, 2002 and 2004), and mix (born 2008 and 2010).

A football clinic for footballers aged 3 to 17 years old was also conducted on Saturday.

James Dinsay, one of the event organizers, explained that the Negros Elite Football Academy is a football school opened for Negros kids aged 3-17 years old.

“We want to start early. I think we are the first football school in Negros to offer training to kids as young as 3 years old,” he said.

Dinsay said that the academy wanted to develop not only the skills of the players but, also their values through football.

“Our program will help the kids develop the technical skills needed for football, and also focuses on building values that will help them succeed in life.”

“We want to provide the highest level of training possible. Our Fifa and AFC licensed coaches will bring the latest accredited training methodologies to Negros with the guidance of Coach John Carmona, Coach Ali Go, and Coach Marielle Benitez – all former national team players.”

Moreover, Carmona is the Philippine Football Federation Regional Technical Director for Visayas while Go was also a former Ceres Negros FC coach and Benitez as former Philippine U-14 girls team as an assistant coach.

Dinsay added that they also want to continue the legacy of football excellence in Negros.

Negros has always been known as the football hotbed of the Philippines, and it is only by focusing on youth development that we will continue to build on that legacy,” he concluded. (HGD)
