ALL set for the 23rd University Games opening rites today at Macias Sports Center here in Dumaguete City with Arellano University and Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. president Peter Cayco as the guest of honor.
Philippine Sports Commission Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez was also invited to grace the ceremony but will not be available because he is attending the budget hearing in the Senate.
Themed as “the games that bring us together for unity and peace,” 31 schools from across the country will be competing and vie for the top honors in five events, namely, athletics, basketball, football, volleyball and beach volleyball.
Among these schools are Adamson University, Aklan Catholic College, Arellano University, Asian College, Ateneo De Davao University, Colegio de San Agustin–Bacolod, De La Salle-College of St. Benilde, De La Salle University–Dasmarinas, De La Salle University-Manila, Foundation University, Holy Angel University, Jose Maria College, La Carlota City College, Leyte Normal University, National University, Negros Oriental State University, Rizal Technological University and Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
Also seeing action are Saint Louis College-La Union, University of Mindanao - Davao City, University of Mindanao-Tagum City, University of Negros Occidental–Recoletos, University of Northern Philippines–Vigan, University of Perpetual Help System–Dalta, University of Perpetual Help System-Laguna (Jonalta), University of San Agustin–Iloilo, University of St. La Salle–Bacolod, University of Southern Philippines Foundation, University of Sto. Tomas, University of the East and the University of the Philippines–Diliman.
The week-long Unigames will be supervised by Br. Felipe Belleza as overall chairman along with Roger Banzuela as president and chairman of the Technical and Games Committee.
