ILOILO Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr. together with the local officials of the municipalities of Mina and New Lucena led the groundbreaking of the concreting project Saturday, October 20.

The concreting of the Mina-Jelicuon-Amiroy road is funded under the Conditional Matching Grant to Provinces (CMGP) of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Iloilo Province availed of the grant after being a consistent awardee of the DILG’s Seal of Local Good Governance (SGLG).

This year, Iloilo province obtained the much coveted “seal” for the fourth straight year.

The Mina-Jelicuon-Amiroy road has a length of 3.78 kilometers and a contract cost of P63, 881,520.

It will be built by the winning contractor the Supreme ABF Construction and Construction Supply, Inc. for 205 calendar days.

Provincial Engineer Gracianito Lucero said the project will be constructed as a standard provincial road with a width of 6.1 meters and thickness of 10 inches.

Around 2.6 kilometers of the road passes through Mina while 1.15 kilometers traverses part of New Lucena.

Defensor stressed that he ensured the concreting of the Amiroy road since he knows how important it is for the people of the two neighboring towns.

He said that next year the Phase 2 of the project will be implemented to complete the road network up to Barangay Cabugao, New Lucena with a budget of P21.5 million also under the CMGP.

DILG representative Lynette Orquiola said the department has earmarked a total of P131 million for various road projects in Iloilo Province next year to be determined by Defensor.

Second District Board Member Liecel Seville, who was also present during the activity, thanked Defensor and DILG for the realization of the road project.

Seville said the project will definitely boost economic development in both the towns of Mina and New Lucena and will help alleviate the lives of the people living in the barangays where the road will traverse.

Also present during the groundbreaking activity and program were Mina Mayor Rey Grabato and other local officials as well as barangay officials of Amiroy and Janipaan East, Mina and Janipaan West and Cabugao, New Lucena. (PR)
