Zamboanga Peninsula expo generates P25-M sales

AN OFFICIAL of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) announced that the 2018 Zamboanga Peninsula Exposition (Zampex) is a big success as it registered P25.4 million in sales.

DTI regional director Sitti Amina Jain, said this year’s sales of Zampex, held from October 8 to 11, is twice higher since its inception in 2014.

The exposition aims to promote locally-made products of micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs) in the region, create or reinforce visibility and raise the awareness and interest of the public of their products, and establish linkages between producers and buyers and establish partnerships among distributors and suppliers through business matching.

Jain said the 2018 Zampex was participated by 102 exhibitors. Of the total, 93 are from the Zamboanga Peninsula, while the remaining nine are from Davao City, Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm), and from Asean-member country, Indonesia.

The exhibitors from Zamboanga City generated the highest sales at P10.4 million representing 41 percent of the total sales of Zampex 2018, Jain added.

She said following second is Zamboanga del Norte with P7.2 million and third, Zamboanga del Sur with P6.47 million.

The DTI official said the exhibitors were grouped according to province or city while the products sold were categorized into food and non-food products.

The non-food products generated the highest sales totaling to P15.041 million while food products generated P10.391 million in sales.

Jain said the P25.4 million sales has surpassed by P10 million to this year’s Zampex target sales of P15 million.

This year’s sales of P25.4 million topped the previous sales since its inception in 2014 until last year, the regional director added.

She said the first edition of Zampex in 2014 has generated total sales of P10.7 million, then was eclipsed in 2015 with P12.5 million, the erstwhile highest sales, until this year.

In 2016, the sales dipped to P11.46 million, but improved to P11.9 million in 2017.

“It’s high time for our local products to conquer bigger market. Next year, we will be bringing Zampex to Manila. After this success, we need to buckle down in preparation for next year. It’s much challenging to bring this to Manila but we are very confident it will be worth the challenges to bring our best products to Manila,” Jain said.

The Zampex, which is held every October, is an annual activity of DTI regional office in line with the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival.

Zampex is the biggest marketing platform for MSMEs in the region, the DTI regional office has instituted in 2014. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
