MAJORITY of Dabawenyas aged 15 to 49 years old surveyed by Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) disagreed with wife beating, based on the survey on Women's attitude on wife beating presented by Marina Araneta, statistical specialist, Statistical Operations and Coordination Division of Philippines.

PSA-Davao Region said that 87 percent of the women from Davao Region do not agree that the husband is allowed to hit their wives under any circumstance.

“If the respondent answered yes in at least one circumstance they are considered to have attitude that justify beating,” Araneta said during 2017 National Demographic Survey on October 19.

Araneta showed five circumstances that lead to wife beating such as wife burns the food, argues with her husband, going out without telling the husband, neglects the children, and refuses to have sex with husband.

The survey showed that 13 percent or more than one in 10 Dabawenyas agree that wife beating is justified under at least one specific circumstance.

Wife neglecting the children was reported as the most common reason that husband beats his wife with 10 percent to be followed by going out without telling the husband with five percent.
