Weygan-Allan: Flight with the sun at your back

THE experience we had coming home from Sunny California had lessons and challenges. For you to go from one country to another continent, flying in the sky over the sea and land is a common day occurrence now, which was considered a miracle generation ago. Let me share what happened and maybe others can learn from this experience.

We went to the IGO IIC 12 in Hawaii last August and stayed a week before we flew to the mainland. I went for a week to Virginia for the Asset-based Community Development training in Virginia Theological Seminary before I flew to California, since my husband choose to be with family and not join me in Virginia that week. We spend some days in Los Angeles with the Kowalski family, before going home to San Diego. There, we had a series of medical appointments which led to a stent implant in the left vein of my husband’s heart artery. That was the reason we were issued a medical notice that we can’t fly as scheduled last September 3. This notice was required by Japan airlines; however, the airlines also requires a doctor’s release that my husband was cleared for travel.

I had my doctor’s clearance last September 25 and was immediately faxed it to Japan Airlines. And the process for clinching a flight started, with them verifying our names and airline tickets. We requested to fly on October 4, 2018. My husband’s medical clearance was only available October 2 after his cardiologist saw him, he must submit his findings to the main health provider which took time. From October 1 to 3, we were in constant contact with the airlines where documents were requested by the airlines, and I learned to send them through my cellphone and through Office Depot.

The confirmation of flights was done through phone by the airlines. The most amazing thing that happened was the eve of our flight. We were at a friend’s house when Masa of Japan Airlines called to verify our details. I told her we must go home and find those papers first. So, my husband and I headed home but it was during dinner when Masa of Japan Airlines called me. She guided me as we went through the booking details, the verification of payments; the check in and seat assignments at around 56 minutes. She waited as we see the confirmations coming in and showing in our bookings. That was the clincher and I will recommend Japan Airlines for travelers. It was customer service at its best.

The collect proper 23 reads: Lord, we pray that your grace may precede and follow us, that we may continually be given to good works, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lived and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

That we may continually be given to good work, through Jesus Christ our Lord. That we may continue doing good works, but it is a realization that good works is also because of our Lord who is good, that all goodness comes from Him.

For others will debate and punch holes to this fact, but it is also a faith thing that confirms this fact. How debatable can that be.

Customer service is to do good, to respond, and seek answers to people’s concern and resolve issues that people have concerning those that bothers people. Yet, when I came home I find the PLDT Lines unconnected, the electric wires dangling after Ompong and despite calls and messages to these utility institutions, nothing has been done since we arrive last October 5. How can consumers be given the service they paid for and subscribed to?

My niece who is managing these accounts have received comments from PLDT customer service “pwude nyo namang paputol iyong connection (you can cut your connection)” of which she replied, “kaya nga kami andito kasi kailangan naming iyong service (that’s why we are here because we need your service).”

And so it is, with a prayer that we continue to do good and respond to needs of people who are in search of answers.

Our flight was the sun at our back and we arrive with the sun on our face.

May the sunshine of goodness continue in our lives and in the lives of others.
