CELEBRATING the bountiful harvest and other blessings of the past year, to mark this significant event, a traditional Canadian Thanksgiving dinner hosted by Roy Rivera and wife Honorary Consul of Canada Katherine Goshulak-Rivera took place at the Rica’s Cafe at The Henry hotel in Cebu City.

To commemorate this traditional annual celebration, warm welcome remarks were made by Katherine Goshulak-Rivera, and president of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Julian Payne, who gladly shared the origins of the Canadian Thanksgiving tradition. To begin with the autumn season, together with all invited guests, Roy Rivera led the beautiful Prayer of Thanksgiving which read: “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.”

An event blissfully adorned with maple leaves (as Canada’s symbolic feature) together with elegant flowers and plants, harvest vegetables and other earth-toned items were put together accordingly as centerpieces on every table.

Getting even more festive on this very special holiday, a delicious feast was prepared, featuring the traditional turkey with a stuffing of mixed dried apple and raisins topped with gravy as well as a spread of chopped harvest vegetables, mashed potatoes, herbed-crusted salmon, roasted porkloin, green salad, to name a few, all complemented with a range of delectable thanksgiving desserts!

For the goodness of what the Lord has given us, Happy Canadian Thanksgiving and more blessings of an abundant harvest!
