THE University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) surged up to the top of the rankings of the boys’ division round-robin semifinals of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) volleyball tournament after picking up its second straight win yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Institute Gym.
USJ-R swept last year’s runner-up Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma in two sets, 27-25, 25-23.
The University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) also handed defending champion University of San Carlos (USC) its first loss in the semifinals, 25-18-15-25, 25-17.
USJ-R has a 2-0 record, while USPF and USC both have 1-1 slates. SWU is 0-2.
USJ-R’s last game is against USC, while USPF takes on SWU this Saturday at the Cebu City Sports Institute Gym.
Meanwhile, USJ-R remained hot in the women’s division after beating defending titleholder Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma at the USPF Gym in a rematch of last year’s finals.
Without some of its key players from last year’s championships, SWU looked lost and didn’t seem to have an answer to USJ-R’s more fluid offense, losing 25-11, 25-12, 25-17. It was also USJ-R’s fifth straight win. (EKA)
