Palace hands off on Lacson's controversy (2:59 p.m.)

MANILA -- Malacanang distanced itself from issues confronting opposition Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson.

Deputy Presidential spokesperson Ricardo Saludo said they will leave the issue to the Department of Justice (DOJ) since they are the ones in-charge of handling the case of Lacson.

Saludo refused to give remarks on the behavior of Lacson for fleeing the country to escape looming charges to be filed against him in relation to Dacer-Corbito double murder case.

He said it is prudent for the executive branch not to comment on the matter and let the rule of law and justice work on the case of Lacson.

“Palace would refrain from giving comments because we might be seen as prejudging (the senator). We cannot make a statement, remember we are already accused here of harassment,” Saludo said.

He meanwhile said that the government will exert all efforts to get Lacson back should a warrant of arrest be issued against the senator. “People fleeing due process is not new. If it (warrant of arrest) happens, we just have to do what is with our power.” (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
