Peaceful, orderly celebration of ‘Undas’ assured

PREPARATIONS for All Saints’ and All Souls’ days are ongoing, including a walk-through in major cemeteries and memorial parks this week.

In a coordination meeting with concerned groups, barangay officials, and city government officials, Secretary to the mayor George Fortea gave assurance that proper coordination and cooperation of the general public ensures a peaceful and orderly commemoration of ‘Undas’.

Cleaning at the cemetery is slated this week.

Traffic and directional signages are being prepared for roads and tourist destinations, and all places expected to be crowded with local tourists, with a long weekend in the offing. Designated parking areas, loading and unloading, and traffic re-routing shall be announced later this week.

Tourist spots like Heritage Hill, Tam-awan, Lourdes Grotto, Camp John Hay Cathedral, Good Shepherd, Botanical, Burnham, Mines View and Wright Parks, including malls and the public market are also being monitored by Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) personnel.

During the meeting, personnel from the City Treasurers Office assured that flower and candle selling take place from October 26 to November 1 at the Jadewell Parking area only, and not along any street nor bus terminals. Permits are released at the City Treasurer’s Office this week.

Personnel deployment, and medical and evacuation plans in case of emergencies were also looked into, spearheaded by the Emergency Medical Services and Philippine National Red Cross.

Uniformed personnel, motorcycle cops, and barangay officials shall monitor the Baguio and Bakakeng Public Cemetery; Everlasting and Pyramid parks in Kias; Heritage garden in Loakan; and Benin cemetery in Pinsao.

In a related note, Traffic Management Unit head Oliver Panabang advised the public Session road will be closed on Friday October 26, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Another activity on October 27 from 4:45 p.m. until the activity is over closes the same road down to the Igorot garden, Panabang added. (PR)
