Mercado: Mothers and Sons

THE 2019 elections, more than the calamities and devils of the Pinatubo eruption, is the real challenge and essence of Kapampangan resiliency.

First of all it has shown the honesty of the Pineda Family. By fielding its son-mother team, it has admitted consolidation of power in a political clan. From now it is not taboo to call the First Family a dynasty, something Pampangos fear to say, as they tiptoe on the issue.

The Pinedas should not be embarrassed or be ashamed of its present power. They arrived and struggled to attain their fortune after spouse.

Next in resiliency and rebirth, are the Hizon couple, Jun and Lolet. They would not let the dynasty go unchallenged whatever the cost. The Hizons avoided a political confrontation with the Dynasty for a long time as can be recalled.

Letting their son Bacolor Mayor Jomar Hizon fight the putative governor, Vice Gov. Dennis Pineda, is a point of no return to the Hizons. He might be the race underdog, but Jomar has shown grit and character which could inflame the voters to the fast and the furious.

By having his mother as his running mate, the hedge is an assurance the Pinedas cannot be swept out of power. What fool will not vote for Nanay?

By coming out in the open in their genuine selves, the Pinedas encouraged a woman barangay chairman to run for Mayor of San Fernando. This is the type of female resiliency that makes the Kapampangan great. Behind the determined and stout hearted Vilma Caluag is a quiet and efficient technologist. Melchor Caluag dreams of being the 1st Gentleman of San Fernando. His old money, goodwill, and philanthropy will stand out if Vilma wallops the city mayor in 23 barangays.

It is a neck and neck race between CSF vice mayoral aspirants Lazatin and Hizon, reports have it. Mang Lolet has improved on her bad legs for added mobility to advance Angie’s crusade.

New and exciting candidate for the Angeles City Council is Jay Pelayo 1V. He has a royal profile like the Duke of Cambridge.
