SENATOR Cynthia Villar is pushing for the promotion and development of cooperatives especially in the field of agriculture in a bid to empower the Filipino farmers.

She bared this in the recently held 5th Central Luzon Kooplympics here at Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center last October 19.

Villar promised that she will continue to pursue legislation that will benefit the farmers and fishermen.

She also mentioned the enactment into law of the Republic Act 10848 also known as the Act Extending the Period of Implementation of the Agricultural Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (ACEF) up to year 2022.

According to Villar, ACEF provides education and training as well as opportunities to innovate existing facilities or operations.

Villar also underscored the need for tax exemption of cooperatives and farmers under the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (Train) law.

She claimed that cooperatives have been promoting economic development and social justice, one of the reasons why Villar Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance (Villar Sipag) was made.

Villar Sipag will award another batch of cooperatives this December, she said. (PR)
