Serna: Piolo, still hot property

SO, those rainbow colors that adorned the profile pics of Facebook users were in celebration of the 100th anniversary of a chocolate brand known for its multi-colored pill-like bits.

When an officemate read that comment, we all broke out in hearty laughter. Whether it was plain naivete or an intentional joke to lighten things up, the comment was simply funny and creative.

Actually, the move was in celebration of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision legalizing same-sex marriage in the union’s 50 states (in case you’re as clueless as I was before).

Piolo Pascual took the risk of being mobbed and hurt when he mingled with the crowd that gathered at the SM City Cebu event center last Monday. He was promoting his latest project with Sarah Geronimo, The Breakup Playlist.

As expected, eager and excited fans could not be contained by the security guards who were as helpless as the star they were guarding. Piolo sang Mangarap Ka followed by With A Smile. While singing he leaped down the stage and joined the crowd, went up the escalator, mingled with the crowd at the second floor, went down the opposite escalator and again joined the crowd at the opposite side.

Before he could reach the mid portion of the next song, he went down from the stage again. When he went up the stage, that was when he noticed some scratches on his hands and arms.

He was still all smiles despite that. At any rate, he is still hot property as far as Cebu fans are concerned.

Earlier, during the presscon at the Feria restaurant of Radisson Blu, Piolo attributed his youthful look to positive thinking, positive vibes, loving one’s self, loving life, striving to become a better person, to look better, to act better, just to be better in all aspects of life.

He described Sarah as professional, a showbiz figure that remains uncorrupted by the system and one who has kept her values intact. As to whether he would fall for Sarah if given the chance, his immediate answer was “definitely.”

However, because of their focus on the work and being both “shy and soft-spoken,” he admits that the relationship was purely professional and had not “gone deeper.”

He also admitted that he gathered useful tips by merely observing the musicians who played cameo roles in the movie like Basti Artadi, Jett Pangan, Teddy Corpuz and others which he was also able to use in his portrayal as a rock star.

He describes those musicians as having “more freedom to experiment on how they look” as compared to actors.

Having been in the biz for long, Piolo knows how to give logical and sensible answers. He’s among those whom I consider interesting to talk to.

Hair and beauty expert Jun Esma eagerly divulged that his TV show that carried his name will be coming back (“with a vengeance,” as Jun puts it) on air in September. Jun started with a radio show then shifted to television.

Because of a foreign trip, he was forced to call it off. He had various segments that touched not only on beauty tips but also on livelihood and other interesting topics.

Michel’s Wine was launched in a grandiose fashion last weekend. Held at the Liv Super Club, the event had guests dressed to the nines as they partook of the buffet, the wines and enjoyed the show.

Others had to endure standing, as chairs had run out because of the huge turnout. The show had some dancing, singing and a fashion show.

Those who performed musical numbers were the Power Trio, Selena Sevilla of the Calayan Medical Clinic, Ethel Booba (she joked about having run out of breath as a result of the weight of her breasts) and Daniel Matsunaga (his performance was interrupted by requests for pictorials by excited admirers, surprisingly, including men).

As announced, Senyorita Amparito Lhuillier walked on the runway in a Monique Lhuillier creation.

Former action star Jeric Raval, event-in-charge Aida Patana and a Liv executive joined the Nyorito Michel and Mrs. Lhuillier onstage after the finale.

The launch was a huge success by any standard. Congratulations!
