AUTHORITIES on Saturday, October 20, arrested a former scout ranger and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agent over his alleged involvement in illegal drugs.
The suspect was identified as Levi B. Bawe, 39, a former Scout Ranger 97. He was ordered arrested by an Iloilo trial court for the murder of his own brother.
Davao City Police Office (DCPO) director Police Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum said he was arrested Friday evening at his rented apartment in Fatima Village, Matina Aplaya, Davao City. He was allegedly hiding in Davao City.
He was tagged as the top three most wanted person by the Police Regional Office (PRO).
In an interview with Levi, he denied having involvement in illegal drugs and said that he was in Davao City for a vacation with his wife. He argued that he was arrested for the case of murder.
Police served on Bawe a warrant for his arrest in line with the Oplan Dabaw Kalinaw. The warrant was issued by Judge Guilale Lim of Regional Trial Court (RTC) 6 Ilo-ilo.
His wife, Sharon S. Bawe, 38, a bank employee was also arrested for estafa based on a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Renato B. Gleyo of RTC 12 Branch 19, General Santos City.
"Suspects were arrested at their residence and now under the custody of the operating unit for proper disposition prior to their commitment to the court," Tagum said.
Police Chief Superintendent Marcelo Morales, meanwhile commended the operating team for the successful operation against the suspects. He said that this accomplishment demonstrates the aggressive, serious and equal implementation of our campaign against illegal drugs and most wanted persons.
"Nevertheless, we would like to emphasize that our campaign against illegal drugs will not choose who should be arrested, whoever they are we will hit them on the ground and they should all held responsible for their actions and face the penalties of the law," he said.
