Police identify suspects in slay of 2 CPDRC guards

THE Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) investigators have identified two of the four gunmen who were involved in the ambush-slay of two jail guards and an inmate of Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) last month.

Senior Supt. Royina Garma, CCPO director, said the motive behind the incident was linked to the illegal drug trade.

“They are members of a gun-for-hire group,” she said.

She refused to divulge the identities of the two suspects who were identified by a witness as part of the group that killed CPDRC jail guards Joel Teves and Bernie Bayotas and inmate Jerryfer Perigrino, who was identified as a big-time drug lord.

The attack happened in Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City last Sept. 13. The suspects, Garma said, have a drug affiliation that is at odds with Perigrino.

CPDRC Warden Reynaldo Valmoria, in earlier reports, said Perigrino and Alvaro “Barok” Alvaro were reportedly in conflict over the smuggling of illegal drugs at the CPDRC. Their feud escalated due to constant operations conducted by police and jail officials to end their illegal operations.

Valmoria said it is possible for Alvaro to have masterminded Perigrino’s killing.

Homicide investigator SPO1 Winston Ybañez said they will file the murder charges against the two suspects today before the Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor. (KAL)
