Re-electionist vice mayor backs drug test for all candidates

RE-ELECTIONIST Bacolod City Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran expressed his support on the proposal that all candidates for 2019 elections should undergo drug tests.

Familiaran said Sunday, October 21, that all candidates should undergo mandatory drug tests, and not only random drug tests.

He said it should be one of the requirements for the candidates before they filed the certificate of candidacy (COC).

Last week, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) director general Aaron Aquino said that surprise drug tests should be conducted on politicians running in the elections to prevent them from preparing for the test by not using illegal drugs before the examination to get a negative result.

Familiaran said the drug test should be conducted not only to the running politicians but also to the government employees.

“It’s important to ensure that our employees are not engaged into illegal drugs,” he said.

He added the city employees union could also initiate drug tests to its members.
