DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio will be one of the high-profile personalities attending the highlights of the 39th MassKara Festival.

This was confirmed by her chief of staff Jayr Nadela to Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

“This will make the festival more exciting and more star-studded. Being the brightest political star today after her father, the anticipation of her visit alone makes this year’s celebration interesting and colorful,” Leonardia exclaimed.

“Mayor Sara though is not a first-timer in MassKara because I remember many years ago I was surprised to see her among the crowd as she came incognito, saying she wanted ‘to observe and learn from how we run MassKara.’ It was a humble gesture which got our admiration and respect,” the mayor added.

Leonardia and Sara Duterte were both officers of the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) National Board when they were both mayors in 2010 to 2013.

Leonardia said the presidential daughter will grace the street dance competition schools category at the Bacolod Public Plaza.

In the evening, she will attend the second night of the Electric MassKara at the Tourism Strip along Lacson Street.

The second night of Electric MassKara will feature the Performing Floats Competition, the Electric Zumba sa MassKara, and the “Sadya ang MassKara with Mayor Bing: National Fireworks Display Competition.”

After that, she will proceed to the Bacolod City Government Center where there will be a K-Pop concert featuring Rion Five.

The concert is part of the program called “South Korea Joins MassKara” as part of the International Mask Arts and Culture Organization International Conference 2019 Commemorative Cultural Events. Bacolod City will host the IMACO International Conference in 2019.

Aside from the Rion Five, the show will also feature the Bukcheong Lion Dance of South Korea, and Sichuan Opera Troupe of China. (PR)
