THE male dormitory of Cagayan de Oro City Jail is now certified drug-free.
City Jail information office Jail Officer 3 Orlando Montalban said they have complied and completed the necessary requirements set to be certified as a drug-free facility, which includes-- sustained illegal drugs campaign, established drug-free workplace policy, the conduct of drug free seminars to the inmates and their families, among others.
Drug tests among the city jail personnel and inmates also yielded to negative results, which led the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Northern Mindanao to declare the facility as drug-free last October 11.
The certificate was given to City Jail Warden Superintendent Erwin Ronquillo who successfully defended his point to PDEA-Northern Mindanao director Wilkins Villanueva.

The Drug-Free Certification Program is a pioneering project of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to counter-illegal drug operations in jails with the support of the Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Health, the local government unit, and the PDEA as the certifying agency.
A jail is certified as drug-free if no illegal drugs were found during series of Greyhound Operations or the anti-llegal drugs operation conducted inside jail facilities.
The jail must also show consistent efforts on anti-illegal drug campaigns in the communities and the conduct as well of random drug testing among inmates and personnel including the warden.
