THERE is always a celebration in Cebu. People are still talking about that magnificent fashion show by internationally renowned designers directed by

Junjet Primor, with the participation of Cinbeth Orellano’s dance group. Birthdays crowded the September and October calendars. Great religious feasts were all over our parishes. Beauty pageants shared the limelight. Oh, yes! The “Kaon Ta” was a special culinary event.

New establishments, especially at Cebu IT Park, are mushrooming so traffic has become unbearable. And we hardly see a regular traffic officer. The Harrison Park at Apas re-opened but is not yet in full swing. I wonder if its food chain could compete with the “carenderias” neck-to-neck competing to attract construction workers and call center agents who opt to buy barbecue, siomai, banana fritters, fried chicken on display (often with no covers) along the sidewalks. And again, traffic becomes crowded. And poor 7- Eleven has to improvise; thus, it now advertises hot fried chicken for sale!

Just watch out when the new mall and supermarket (will it include a hotel?) rise at the heart of Cebu IT Park. And mind you, the call centers and condominiums are moving fast as well. That is PROGRESS in capital letters. Now the residents are asking: What happens to the park’s greens and blooms, fresh air and clean environs? Falling debris and construction dust from tall buildings are hazards to the houses nearby.

But Cebu is still growing. It registered an increase in tourism arrivals. Indeed, celebrate Cebu, where the heart sings!

SP COMMUNICATION KIT. How good are you in business usage? Unlike in the past, business correspondence now uses precise terms and sentences; clear text and friendly approaches. Ex. Instead of saying “All that is necessary for you to do,” say, “just”; say “carefully” instead of “in the most careful manner”; use “later” not “in a later date”; not “due to the fact” but say “because”; not “in the near future” but say, “soon”; not “in the normal course of our procedure” but just say, “normally.” Save time, space and effort!
