Porac students get P1-M scholarship aid

SOME 400 college students of the mountainside town of Porac received P2,500 each as part of the latest P1-million tranche of scholarship assistance under the “Team CD” scholars program.

The beneficiaries were given their financial assistance at the municipal hall recently.

In attendance during the event were Mayor Condralito dela Cruz, Vice-Mayor Dexter David and members of the town council.

The assistance was made possible through Municipal Ordinance No. 07-2016 which provides financial assistance to indigent students of the town.

Under the ordinance, some 3,000 high school students and another 400 college students will receive scholarship assistance yearly from the P4- million allocation of the town.

The allocation has been recently increased to P5 million.

According to Councilor Fritzie David-Dizon, the program helps pay the tuition of its beneficiaries.

While the assistance is not big, David-Dizon said that it is enough to inspire the students to pursue their studies. She added that it is the responsibility of not just the parents to send their children to school but also of the whole community.

David-Dizon added that the financial assistance program is part of the first development programs started under the term of Dela Cruz.

The students are encouraged to maintain a certain grade average to maintain membership in the program. This in turn ensures that the students become more determined to see their studies through. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
