Maasin City implements 'wheel clamping' for traffic violators

MAASIN City Mayor Nacional Mercado announced Tuesday, October 23, the strict implementation of an ordinance using wheel clamps to immobilize stalled vehicles on city streets.

“In this way, we can resolve the city’s vehicular traffic concerns by clearing the roads of illegally parked vehicles,” Mercado said.

Following section 3 of the City Ordinance 2013-069, the mayor said that no owner or operator of a vehicle shall park his vehicle on some identified streets in the city or they will be penalized.

Below are the penalties:

* For vehicle run by power, motor or engine: First offense - P500; Second offense - P700; and Third and more offenses - P1,000.

* For vehicle run by muscular power or manpower: First Offense - P100; Second offense - P300; and Third offense and more offenses - P500.

According to the ordinance, all vehicles are prohibited to park at all times in the following streets:

* Tomas or T. Oppus St. and R.K. Kangleon St., which are designated as National Highway -- both sides

* From R. Kangleon St. corner Iyano St., going to the Maasin Public Terminal -- both sides

Parking is also not allowed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday to Saturday in the following areas:

* From R. Kangleon corner Paler Sts. Going to Maasin Terminal - right side

* From R. Kangleon corner Zara Sts. Going Espina Blvd - right side

* From R. Kangleon corner Cabrera up to Cabrera corner Rosales Sts. - both sides

* From R. Kangleon corner Rafol up to Rafol corner Enage Sts. - both sides

* From Tomas Oppus corner Iglesia up to Iglesia cor. Rosales Sts. - both sides

* From Tomas Oppus corner Juan Luna up to Juan Luna corner Enage Sts. - both sides

* From Juan Luna corner Enage Sts. To Blvd - right side

* From P. Gonzales corner Garces Sts. To Blvd - both sides

* From Tomas Oppus corner Demeterio Sts. To Pier area - left side

* From P. Gonzales corner Panal to Tomas Oppus Sts. - right side

* From P. Gonzales corner Plaridel going Tomas Oppus Sts. - right side
