DRUG addiction does not affect only the abuser but it affects all the people surrounding them. It kills them slowly, drags them to unsuccessful career and away from a harmonious life. It breaks family relationships and brings chaos to society.
A drug user initially takes illegal drugs for pleasure, curiosity or to escape from problems. But later, they get hooked and dependent to it.
Some families suffer from financial problems because the abuser tends to prioritize drugs over domestic finances. They usually steal money or sell valued items just to buy drugs. The kids lose respect of their drug-dependent parent. The kids suffer from a long-term psychological and emotional damage, not to mention the arguments and fights that usually lead to family breakdown.
On the other hand, children who become drug-dependent lose interest in going to school. They cut classes and even lie to their parents.
Drugs do not only destroy a family. It has a devastating impact to the society, too. Drug addiction affects all members of the family and it causes horrific tensions to the community. It is like a plaque that can damage the entire world.
Every day, it causes violent crimes, rape cases, homelessness, poverty, and child abuse and neglect to increase. Several accidents had also occurred due to drivers driving under the influence of drugs. These incidents have caused so many injuries and fatalities. The community will always be in fear of their safety and security. Drug addiction is a complex illness that affects all. Even if one is not a user, or affected directly – everyone is affected by drug addiction in other ways.
While for some it is most likely too late to take the battle against illegal drugs, I believe responsible people can begin to find time to educate themselves and the community about how drugs can hurt you, your family and the society.
