City seeks homes for Dabawenyos

THE City Government of Davao is planning to partner with known property developers in providing suitable housing for the homeless families in the city.

As the city recorded a total of 29,000 homeless families and those who are living in disaster prone areas, Councilor Rene Lopez said that there is a need for decent housing which was being tackled in his committee.

Lopez said the city will have a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Camella properties and the SM Development Corporation (SMDC), still to be signed by City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

“The city has seen fit that this (MOA) will be the answer to the housing problem in the city,” Lopez said, adding that this plan will take time to be realized.

He further said that both the SMDC and Camella agreed to develop the land areas only. House construction, however, will be a separate project.

The identified beneficiaries are those families that are homeless, living in disaster-prone areas or even those families that are at risk to be kicked-out by landowners.

“The SMDC will undertake 14.5 hectares, and Camella communities which is comprised by six other developers, will undertake land development for about 6.7 hectares,” Lopez said, adding that with a total of more than 20 hectares for land development, the city will be able to provide suitable housing for the Dabawenyos who needed it most.

“This is in coordination with the National Housing Administration who will undertake the construction and awarding of the lands to qualified beneficiaries,” he said.
