Mactan Newtown’s 4th tower honors city’s past

MEGAWORLD will soon add a fourth residential tower in its Mactan Newtown development in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

The La Victoria Global Residences, a 20-storey Spanish-inspired tower, will be sitting on a 30-hectare area at the center of the township, said Noli Hernandez, Megaworld Cebu Properties Inc. president.

La Victoria Global Residences will provide 181 units--studio up to 40 square meters, one-bedroom units up to 53 square meters, two-bedroom units up to 80 square meters and three-bedroom units up to 118 square meters.

The tower, which is expected to fetch total sales of P1.5 billion, will feature an infinity pool and kiddie pool, children’s play area, function room, fitness center, fitness trail and jogging path, day care center and balconies, which overlook the sea and the mountains.

Hernandez said that each unit will have an estimated price of P160,000 per square meter.

Harold Geronimo, Megaworld public relations and media affairs head, said that what makes this new building different from the other three buildings in the township is its components.

“It doesn’t just have a leisure component. It also has a work component,” said Geronimo.

The La Victoria is named after the Galleon Victoria, the ship which Ferdinand Magellan brought to the island of Cebu in 1521, and also the first ship which circumnavigated the globe in 1522.

Geronimo said they chose to have a Spanish theme for the building because they want to celebrate the victory of the Filipinos during that time and it is their way of paying tribute to that story.

“In the history of the world, it’s when the East met the West in 1521,” explained Geronimo.

Hernandez said the tower’s central facade will have an inscription of the years when Galleon Victoria started and completed its circumnavigation.

Hernandez said that they are targeting La Victoria Global Residences to be completed in 2022, the 500th year of the circumnavigation of the Galleon Victoria.

Excluding the La Victoria units, there are currently 1,305 residential units at the Mactan Newtown. (Jerra Mae Librea, contributor)
