THE minimum fare for tricycles in Lapu-Lapu City is now P8.

Last month, the Lapu-Lapu City Council approved the ordinance raising the minimum tricycle fare by P1, from P7 to P8.

Cited as one of the reasons is the recent increases in the prices of gasoline.

The City Attorney’s Office has been tasked to issue the new fare matrix so that tricycle drivers and operators can post this in their units to inform the public.

The drivers and operators are asked to immediately post the fare matrix once they have it.

Claudio Socobos, 64, has been driving a tricycle for a living for 34 years now. He said he is happy to hear about the fare increase.

He said it’s better if the driver of the tricycle also owns the unit because he will earn more compared to the driver who is just renting his unit. The unit rent is usually P250 for seven to eight hours.

City Attorney Yuri Benlaun said copies of the new fare matrix are available at his office for free. (FVQ)
