City to auction vehicles, including 58 motorbikes

TO GENERATE more income, the Cebu City Government will auction around 184 vehicles, of which 58 are motorcycles.

The close to 200 vehicles subject for auction are estimated to be worth around P4,627,000.

In an interview, Department of General Services (DGS) chief Ronald Malacora said that for the City to earn more, the Commission on Audit (COA) has recommended the disposal of unused vehicles.

The City Government has already disposed of some 127 unserviceable vehicles worth P2.9 million last July.

Malacora said the City will have to fast-track the disposal of the remaining vehicles before their value depreciates.

Aside from motorcycles, the unserviceable vehicles up for auction are buses, four-wheeled vehicles and heavy equipment.

“After the appraisal, COA will check if everything’s okay. If okay, we will publish the auction. Our target is by November or early December,” Malacora said.

In a separate interview, DGS administrative officer III Jovanne Villanueva said that around 89 vehicles are still subject for identification while 37 are already in the City Government’s system.

He explained that some of the vehicles subject for auction were owned by the barangays and other government offices before they were turned over to the DGS.

Villanueva said there is still a possibility that the price will increase since the auction will favor the highest bidder.

Other City Hall offices that are part of the committee on awards, such as the Accounting, Treasurer’s, Budget and Legal, will still have to review the appraisal made by the DGS. (RTF)
