UNIVERSITY of Baguio (UB) leaned on the outside snipping of Claude Camit in securing a huge win against rival Cordillera Career Development College, 105 93 at the UB Gym Wednesday evening.

Camit fired 21 markers to lead the UB Cardinals to its second victory in men’s basketball of the ongoing Baguio–Benguet Educational Athletic League (BBEAL) season 32.

Camit’s late treys in the first half saw UB take a 49-45 lead after trailing 43-44 with 1:21 remaining negating bad free throws for the BBEAL’s winningest basketball team which made only four of 13 from the 15-foot line in second period.

The 5’7 shooting guard made his big splash in the court during the team’s first acid test as he fired two more treys early in the third canto to give UB a 57-47 lead.

UB never looked back as its lead increased to 15. But an 8-2 run by the former two time champion from La Trinidad cut the Cardinals lead to seven, 66-57, 3:26 left in the third quarter.

UB’s John Erick Victorio then hit a triple and got fouled in the process. By sinking his extra basket, UB’s lead extended to 75-59, their biggest in the ball game.

A 13-6 run by the Admirals early in the fourth saw them cut the lead to eight, 76-84, the closest CCDC could get, 7:29 remaining.

However, UB answered with a 9-2 run as the Cardinals jumped to a 93-78 lead, 4:57 left in the game. After back to back baskets by CCDC, Camit hit his sixth trey for a 96-82 UB lead and an extra basket due to a foul that saw him tumble on the floor. He made the extra basket for a 97-82 UB lead.

UB then coasted to the win, the team’s second after an opening win over host University of the Philippines at the University of the Cordilleras gym.

Big man Renz dela Cruz, the prize find from Santiago City, bucked fouls to support Camit with his 13 points, while Victorio added 12.

Nuary Adame led the charge for the Admirals delivering 23 points who also saw three others scoring in double digit with Manuel Felix Jr. chipping in 21 points, while Paul Balagot added 18 points as Edward Trias Jr. had 16. (Roderick Osis)
