Masangkay beats Indian foe

JOPITO Masangkay of I.Flex Spartam finished the fight against Shashi Kant of Crosstrain Fight Club India with a unanimous decision win in the 121lbs main event of the Davao Urban Fighting Championship (DUFC) Trese "Davao Occidental Siege" at Malita Sports Gymnasium, Davao Occidental last Tuesday, October 23.

Masangkay, younger brother of former undisputed DUFC champion Pepito, who just won his first pro boxing fight last Sunday, October 21, in Butuan City via fourth round knockout, now sports an impressive seven wins and one loss in his mixed martial arts career.

The 19-year-old fighter is following the footsteps of his older brother, who is also a striking savvy, after displaying tremendous punches and well-timed strikes against the Indian that earned him a customized mixed martial arts belt courtesy of Davao Occidental Governor Claude Bautista.

On the other hand, undisputed pin weight champion Edilberto "Scooby" Coquia Jr. of I.Flex Spartam and Team Lakay also scored a unanimous decision win over Rutcha Quirante of Team Yugo Camp.

The 18-year-old promising fighter is training in the camp of reigning One FC bantamweight champion Kevin "The Silencer" Belingon and former lightweight champion Edward "The Landslide" Folayang of Team Lakay.

John Ezekiel Pagalangan also of I.Flex Spartam, who recently trained with the Pilipinas Sambo, also won big in the 125 lbs after beating Rowen Barte of MP Martial Arts Digos.

Other winners were Anacelto Lauron of Camp Vallega, Alex Jun Bonjovi Sumergido of I.Flex Spartam, Johnson Rahul of I.Flex Spartam, Padem Shamer of Team Surigao Fighter, Jeto Masangkay of I.Flex Spartam, Allan Villaber of Davao Occidental Fighter, Mark Lix Doria of Davao Occidental Fighter, Sherwin Importante of I.Flex Spartam, Robery Bobby Masayao of Davao Occidental Fighter, Alvin Boc of Davao Occidental Fighter and Bryce Jude Sombilon of Davao Occidental Fighter.

The event was one of the highlights of the Araw ng Davao Occidental celebration.
