How to disappear completely with Ngilgig Festival 2018

THE Davao Ngilngig Festival (DNF) 2018 will be having a one-time screening of the critically-acclaimed film How to Disappear Completely on Sunday, October 28, 2018. The film screening, hosted by DNF's partner, Global Shapers Davao, will be complemented by a forum on Creative Producing with the director Raya Martin and producer Armi Rae Cacanindin. This rare film event will start at 3PM at the Davao Cinematheque, Palma Gil St., Davao City.

How to Disappear Completely follows the story of an adolescent girl who feels trapped in a small-island town, in a haunted “home” she shares with a dysfunctional family. The film is not the usual fright-night, jumpscare horror that most viewers have gone accustomed to. Martin, known to take experimental approaches in storytelling, reveals in an interview for Flpno.com that How to Disappear is one of his “more accessible works” despite the sensitivity of the film's topic. The striking symbolisms and the aural accompaniment by Eyedress artfully presents the filmmaker's take on the Filipino subconscious. With Martin, the audience must remove themselves from expectations. Or better yet, remove themselves from their selves, as what Radiohead's song of the same title says, “That there, that's not me... this isn't happening, I'm not here. I'm not here.”

The Davao Ngilngig Festival 2018 is organized by Pasalidahay with Balud Art Network, Global Shapers Community Davao, Micromedia Digital Video Productions, Origane Films, Pinoy Movie Blog, Swito Social Innovation Hub, The Panagtagbo, Timewrap Film Productions, and in partnership with Midtown Printing Co., Inc., Cinedashery East/Midtown Films. The Festival is also sponsored by Film Development Council of the Philippines, Malagos Garden Resort, and State of Mind Productions, Green Windows Dorm and Hotel, National Commission for Culture and the Arts, SunStar Davao.
