Barangay Sibulan in Davao eyed as organic zone

THE Interface Development Interventions (Idis) Inc. said they are hoping for Barangay Sibulan to be declared as the first organic zone in Davao City before the year ends.

“Hopefully, ma-declare na ang Barangay Sibulan as an organic zone kaya naa tay gina-push sa city council nga i-declare na siya, so hopefully kana ang maging pilot organic zone sa city or sa tibuok Pilinas (Hopefully, Barangay Sibulan will be declared to as an organic zone because we have been pushing that in the city council. If that happens, it will be the first pilot organic zone in the city or the whole Philippines),” lawyer Mark Peñalver said in an interview with SunStar Davao Wednesday, October 25.

Peñalver added that it has been a challenge to ask the farmers to shift to organic farming but as a non-government organization (NGO), they are doing everything they can to explain the advantages of organic farming.

Meanwhile, he invited all the small-scale farmers in Davao Region to join the World Food Day celebration on October 26 at the World Palace to tackle more about the benefits of organic farming.

The event’s theme is “Zero Hunger” in the region by not only making food accessible to everyone but also providing healthy and safe food through organic farming.

The goal, according to Peñalver, was included to the sustainable development goals of the city.
