New road boosts Misamis town economy

RESIDENTS of Barangay Mapurog can now travel with ease after the P67-million farm-to-market road (FMR) was officially turned over to Municipality of Bonifacio.

“It has been always a dream for us to have a well-paved road here and now we can see that our local government unit and our barangay really work hard to have this project through PRDP,” said Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representatives (IPMR) Charlie Torres.

Torres recalled the difficulty of their lives before because of long travel time going to the town market. But after the completion of FMR in their community, they now have better means of transportation.

“Before, when we go to Bonifacio town to buy fresh fish it takes us whole day and the moment we return home, the fish was already rotting or no longer fresh,” said Torres.

“But now that this road was open, fish vendors come up here in our barangay to sell fresh fish and other products,” added Torres.

The turnover ceremony conducted last September 15, 2018 was by attended Assistant Regional Director and Deputy Project Director Engr. Roxana H. Hojas in behalf of Regional Director and PRDP Project Director Carlene C. Collado with Bonifacio Municipal Mayor Samson R. Dumanjug and Mis. Occ. 2nd District Representative Henry S. Oaminal.

This 4.96 kilometer FMR now benefits the 713 household within the road influence area which include barangays Mapuro (Migsale), Montol, Kanaokanao, and Buenavista.

This also supports the municipality’s champion commodities such as coconut, cassava, banana cardava, high value crops, coffee and corn.

“Now that we have this concrete road, we plan to have a farmers’ day or Taboan once a week so that there will be a venue for our farmers to sell their products and trade with other sellers from other barangays and from the town,” said Mapurog Barangay Captain Felix Tagalog.

“We rely on good transportation for our product. As a school teacher here, I can say that all children in our community have no more reason why they can’t go to school because of poor road. As long as they study harder, they can surely reach their dreams,” said school teacher Jean T. Escobar. (PR)
