Sons of cop, jail officer in PNPA hazing scandal

THE sons of a police officer and a jail officer were among those involved in the hazing scandal that hit the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA).

One of the three cadets who allegedly meted the oral sex punishment on two plebes is the son of a police official while one of the victims is the son of a jail officer.

“One of the victims is a son of a jail officer and the respondent is a son of an officer of the Philippine National Police,” said relieved PNPA director Chief Superintendent Joseph Adnol.

Adnol said the three cadets - two sophomores and one junior - have been charged with administrative and criminal charges for ordering two plebes to perform oral sex while they watched.

They could be dismissed from the academy, PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde said earlier.

Adnol said the complainants alleged that they were punished for several violations.

He said, however, that no reason could justify such punishment, which is considered hazing, a practice long banned in the academy.

“Sa amin sa tingin namin sa investigation, these were only reasons made by the respondent para magkaroon sila ng dahilan para i-punish sila (These were just alibis provided by the respondent to justify the punishment given),” Adnol said.

“Kapag titingnan natin, it could be done anywhere if you really want to do it, pero yung grabe na iko-corner mo para i-hazing mo, wala naman nare-report na ganon except itong nangyari na ito na talagang nakakahiya na nangyari ang ganito,” he added.

Adnol said the two victims are undergoing counseling, but they have not been isolated from their class.

The three suspects, on the other hand, were placed on hold and isolation in the PNPA campus.

The PNPA was given 90 days to finish its investigation on the matter. (SunStar Philippines)
