Comelec starts ERB hearing for new registrants

THE ELECTION Registration Board (ERB) of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Bacolod City started the hearing for new registrants on Thursday, October 25.

“This will be a five-day ERB hearing, so we will do our best to evaluate all of the documents and we will finish first the new registrants,” City Election Registrar Mavil Majarucon-Sia said.

Majarucon-Sia said they already evaluated the documents of about 2,000 new registrants.

From July 2 to September 29, they accommodated about 10,849 new registrants which are all subject for ERB hearing.

From July 2 to September 29 this year, Comelec accommodated a total 19,463 applicants.

Of the 19,463 applicants, 10,849 are new registrants, 4,122 transfer from outside Bacolod, 533 transfer with reactivation, 177 transfer with reactivation and corrections, 1,280 for reactivation, 1,345 transfer within Bacolod, 261 transfer with corrections, and 583 have corrections.

After the ERB hearing, Comelec will review their records to determine the deceased voters and those who transferred residence.

Other members of the ERB are Civil Registrar Head Hermilo Pauyon and Bacolod Schools Division Superintendent Cynthia Demavivas.

Majarucon-Sia said she was only assisted by Pauyon because Demavivas was on official travel abroad.

Meanwhile, Majarucon-Sia said they already submitted to the Comelec Law Department the lists of candidates for the 2019 elections.

She said a total of 35 candidates in Bacolod City had filed their certificates of candidacy (COC).

“Most of them have already appeared here to confirm their names that will appear in the official ballots,” she added.

Of the 35 candidates, only five failed to confirm their names at Comelec office.

The list of certified candidates will come from the Comelec Law Department and as of October 25, there’s no petition or withdrawal of candidacy filed at the Comelec office. (MAP)
