NEA dissolves Zamcelco board

MAYOR Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar expressed gratitude to the National Electrification Administration (NEA) for heeding her request to enforce the implementing rules and regulations of the NEA Reform Act of 2013 and assign third persons in the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (Zamcelco) board or create a management team as replacement of the incumbents.

Salazar’s statement came after the NEA board of administrators in a recent resolution approved to deactivate the board of directors of Zamcelco effective immediately.

The deactivation is due to the deteriorating financial condition and operational performance of Zamcelco and was pursuant to the authority of the BOA under Presidential Decree 269.

Salazar’s request made through a letter last August 14, 2018 was coursed through President Rodrigo Duterte who referred the same to NEA administrator Edgardo Masongsong on September 3, 2018.

In a letter to Lawyer Margarita Yu, Assistant Secretary at then Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence Go dated September 7, 2018 and copy furnished to Salazar, Masongsong acknowledged the mayor’s letter and informed Malacanang that the NEA already issued an order dated August 16, 2018 “on the creation of Task Force Duterte Zamboanga City Power (TFD-ZCP) and Management Team to perform the duties and responsibilities of the EC board of directors and to oversee its day-to-day operations, respectively.”

As early as July 12 this year, the NEA has also issued a show cause order requiring the Zamcelco board of directors to explain why no administrative or disciplinary action will be taken against them. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
