CEBUANOS were in for a treat when the stars of GMA Network’s primetime hit series “Pamilya Roces” invaded Cebu via two simultaneous mall shows. Headlining the Kapuso Mall Show in Gaisano Capital South were Kapuso stars Carla Abellana, Rocco Nacino and Sophie Albert. Bringing the fun and “kilig” treat to Lapu-Lapu City at Gaisano Island Mall Mactan were Gabbi Garcia, Shaira Diaz, Andre Paras, Manolo Pedrosa and Jasmine Curtis Smith.

“Pamilya Roces” had its debut on GMA Telebabad last Oct. 8. The series showcases a different perspective of a family that many people can relate to. Things began to complicate when the patriarch of the Roces clan, the founder of the biggest jewelry empire in the country, had a heart attack which resulted in a big revelation when his three families gathered. The plot of the series will play on how the five sisters compete and chase for their father’s love and legacy.

Most of the lead stars admitted that their characters were challenging to portray since these were different from their usual roles. As for Garcia, her acting skills were put to the test as she plays an antagonistic character. Garcia admitted that she was scared at first to show a different side of her usual roles but eventually enjoyed it upon receiving positive feedback.

“I was really overwhelmed by the reception online. I’ve been reading overwhelming tweets,” she said. Nacino’s role is a game changer—as the actor admitted that the sudden shift of his usual roles in drama to comedy was very challenging.

Some of the stars can also relate to their characters in real life, most especially when playing siblings. Award-winning actress Curtis Smith claims her role as Amethyst is exactly as her real personality.

“I love eating. Simple. Silent. Loves the family. I think that’s very much who I am,” she said.

Abellana confessed that she can also relate much to the series since her father and the Roces patriarch share similarities.

Despite the clashes seen on screen, the celebrities all agreed that they are really more like a family behind the cameras. There is great camaraderie among the stars which is what makes their job fun. The Kapuso actors were also thankful to the renowned multi-awarded director Joel Lamangan for giving each character a spotlight to shine.

The locals were not the only ones treated, as the stars enjoyed their stay in Cebu as well. Everyone was in agreement that Cebu lechon is still pretty much the best. Paras, in his frequent visits in Cebu, said that the energy and the hype of Cebuanos is what he loves the most.

No family is perfect but “Pamilya Roces” shows that a family will always be a family in the end. Catch the show every weeknight after “Onanay” on GMA Telebabad.
