EVER since childhood, we've been told of the different fairy tales, the classics being Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast. All ends with a happily ever after.

However, not all versions of these fairy tales are child-friendly, so to speak.

The Brothers Grimm's (Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm) version of these fairy tales, in particular, is something that even though the protagonists still got their sort of happy ending, the "villains" of these tales died in gruesome ways.

Despite its dark themes, there were several movies and television shows created which are inspired by the Brothers Grimm's stories.

One of those shows is the "Grimm" series, created by Stephen Carpenter, Jim Kouf and David Greenwalt and produced by the Universal Television for NBC.

Grimm is an American drama six-season series that tells the story of Detective Nick Burkhardt of the Portland Police Department as he learns about his lineage as the last of the Grimms, people who are in charge of protecting humanity from monsters, called Wesen, which are only known to exist in fairy tales.

Despite the dark elements present in the show, with all the gruesome deaths you expect in crime scenes and the horrifying faces of some of the Wesens, there are still dashes of humor and romance in it.

And if you're a fan of detective or crime and supernatural pr fantasy shows, Grimm is definitely a must-see series, especially if you really want to learn the different monsters that are said to roam in disguise in our world.

Another interesting thing in the series is the kind of creatures that appear in the show, as not only were there werewolves, witch or warlock, insects, goats, rats and pig-looking creatures, it also featured in an episode the Philippine monster called "aswang," particularly the "tik-tik," a creature that targets pregnant women to eat their babies.

Personally, as someone who likes horror shows and fascinated with mythical and supernatural beings, the Grimm is my cup of tea.

The series has 123 episodes in total and is currently available in Netflix.
