Probe men tested positive

ACTING on a report, the Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (Cosap) administered a surprise drug test on 17 personnel of Prevention Restoration Order Beautification and Enhancement (Probe) Monday, Oct. 29.

Of the 17, four tested positive. Their urine samples will be submitted to a confirmatory test, said Cosap Chief Garry Lao.

Lao said he will recommend the termination of Probe workers who test positive for illegal drug use.

He said a concerned citizen tipped him about Probe personnel who were allegedly into illegal drug use.

“I immediately called up Probe Head Raquel Arce and she agreed to have them subjected to a surprise drug test,” he said.

Probe workers are the ones in charge of clearing operations of the City, including illegal vendors along the city’s sidewalks.

Lao said he will refer those who did not submit themselves to the test to their superiors who will decide on what to do with them.

Meanwhile, Cosap also administered drug tests on newly-hired employees of the City as part of its pre-employment requirement.

So far, a total of 131 newly-hired employees have already undergone the drug test. (RVC)
