New Zealand gov't grants P800, 000 for rugby dev't in Negros Occidental

THE government of New Zealand has granted Negros Occidental an amount of P800, 000 for the promotion and development of rugby in the province, said New Zealand Ambassador to the Philippines David Strachan.

Strachan, who was at the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City over the weekend, stressed that his visit to Negros is to help promote rugby among the Filipino youth. "We, being the world's leader in rugby, we want to share the good things about this sport in our neighbors - particularly the Philippines," he said.

“It is an honor for New Zealand to support the development of rugby in the Philippines. We are delighted to take part in this project which will equally help young boys and girls and grow their passion for a great sport like rugby,” said Strachan.

Meanwhile, a total of 28 teams took part in this two-day event.

Winning the Under 13s female division is Ateneo de Davao followed by Cameleon Rugby Kids Team and JL Suarez Elementary School while Mandalagan conquered the Under 13s male as Magcorao Elementary School and JL Suarez Elementary School settled for runner-up honors.

For the Under 16s female, EB Magalona High School Team A win the crown followed by Abkasa and D’ Cameleon Warriors Rugby B while Cebu Junior Dragons A finished champions in Under 16s male followed by EB Magalona High School Team A Cebu Junior Dragons B settled runners-up. (HGD)
