400 artists to join Baguio Creative Arts Festival

SOME 400 artists from various fields of the industry will converge in the city during the week-long Baguio Creative Arts Festival from November 10 to November 18, 2018.

The Baguio Arts and Creative Council Inc. (BACCI) said the participating local and national artists will be showcasing their expertise in their own fields during the opening program that will be held at the Dominican Hill and Retreat House.

The opening program dubbed “ENTAcool festival and Kulay ng Siglo” will kick off at 5 p.m. on November 10.

City Tourism Officer Aloysius Mapalo said that in the morning of November 10, 2018, there will be a preview for local, national and international media of the city’s Creative Crawl.

The event is the first-ever grand gathering of hundreds of artists in support of the Baguio Creative Arts Festival which is part of the initiative of concerned stakeholders to sustain the designation of Baguio City as part of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) Creative Cities Network, especially on crafts and folk arts.

Mapalo said the opening program will feature the different music and dances of the Cordillera, starting with the traditional Uggayam by Mayor Mauricio Domogan followed by a creative ethnic dance.

Messages from Unesco, BACCI, tourism and city officials will be delivered prior to the unveiling of the ENTAcool logo through a special video lights show. This will be immediately followed by a keynote address, hopefully from Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romula-Puyat.

Dignitaries and guests will also be participating in the so-called celebratory toast which will be followed by the ceremonial opening of the “Kulay ng Siglo” art exhibit that will be on display at the Dominican Hill and Retreat House until the closing ceremonies on November 18.

Mapalo said a talk on creative spaces will be delivered by Paolo Mercado, president and founder of Creative Economy Council of the Philippines.

Guests will be ushered through the gallery exhibit for a tour while there will be Cañao and cocktails to end the program.

ENTAcool Kulay ng Siglo visual arts gallery and exhibits will be a week-long public visual arts gallery and installation exhibits display by local artists. (PR)
