Council to push for SM Skyranch consultation

THE Baguio City Council has passed a resolution seeking a public consultation on the proposed Sky Ranch Recreational Facility at SM Baguio.

The resolution, proposed by Councilor Art Allad-iw, invites officials of SM City Baguio, Department of Environment and Natural Resources in the Cordillera, Environment and Management Bureau - CAR, Governor Pack Road, University of the Cordilleras, University of the Philippines-Baguio, and other stakeholders to appear before the council and hold a public discussion on the amusement park project.

The resolution calls on the project proponent to appear before the council on the last Monday of November and present details of the project, the processes done, and the impact on the environment, if any.

Allad-iw said that during the September 17 session, SM City Baguio representatives appeared before the council.

“In that session, Rona Correa, mall manager of SM Baguio, said they acquired an amended Environmental Compliance Certificate to make sure that the project is covered and, she also said they were able to acquire Certificate of No Objection on the project from the Barangay Governor Pack Road,” Allad-iw said.

Under the Philippine Environmental Impact Statement System (PD No. 1586), Presidential Proclamation No. 2146 defining the EIS system and pursuant to DENR Administrative Order No. 42, various requirements are needed as to projects covered by an ECC, which include: Environmental Impact Statement, Initial Environmental Examination Report, Programatic Environmental Examination Report, Environmental Performance Report and Management Plan, Project Description and consultation with stakeholders.
