Campaign asks Kagay-anons to use ecobags

CITY Hall employees on Monday vowed to stop using plastic cellophane as the city government steps up its campaign to prepare for January 1, 2019 where a total plastic ban will be implemented throughout the city.

"This is like a launching for the city government employees to adopt our policy 'No to Plastic Bag, Yes to Eco bag' that we are 100 percent committed to be environment-friendly," Engineer Armen Cuenca said, chief of the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (Clenro).

The city has also awarded during Monday's flag-raising SM Supermarkets and Shopwise for voluntarily implementing the plastic ban in their vicinity.

"Our campaign is so far going smoothly, in fact the big malls were the first ones who signified their support. We are now going to small establishments to make sure that they too are fully committed," he said.

The city is also rewarding residents who use ecobags when shopping in public markets to further promote the cause.

Last week, 10 residents were rewarded with 5 kilograms of rice for using ecobags.
