Davao dethrones Cebu squad in JAM futsal 2018

UNDERDOG Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) dethroned defending champion Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-ADC) in the biennial Jesuit Athletic Meet (JAM) 2018 girls futsal tournament title yesterday.

With rookies in the cast, Addu exacted revenge against veteran-laden SHS that whipped the former in the eliminations, through a 3-2 upset victory in their finals showdown.

Denise Angela Diamante knocked in two goals as teammate Alessandra Ysabel added one goal with assistance from Julienne Meredith Mirto.

Addu head coach Rachel “Ching” Delos Reyes praised the exceptional efforts of their prized goal keeper Jessica Marie Pido for foiling the opponents' attacks.

“Maayo nalang gyud amoang attacking players kay aggressive mao to naka concede mi ug three goals (It was fortunate our strikers converted three goals),” the multi-titled coach shared via Facebook.

Delos Reyes had to adjust on their defense after losing Lianne Co who was sidelined by an injury durig the eliminations.

She also resorted to a man-to-man defense to contain SHS's key player Itsuko Bacatan who still managed to knock in two goals amid pressure.

The hard-earned win, she said, made the gold medal priceless.

“This title is among the greatest achievement for the team,” she said.

Completing the roster are Julianna Raine Taojo, Alessandra Ysabel Aquino, Alessandra Kyana Dimaandal, Shanelle, Charllyne Ostan, Angelica Beatrx Magno, Yunika Maria Angala, Samantha Hope Salise and Jasmine Cassandra Agustin. Analou Ingles was assistant coach.
