Fire marshals told to intensify inspection

ALL fire marshals in Negros Occidental were directed to intensify inspection as well as fire prevention program during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

Chief Inspector Publio Plotena, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Bacolod head and caretaker of BFP-Negros Occidental, said Tuesday, October 30, that all the fire marshals in various cities and municipalities should conduct inspection and fire prevention program within their areas of jurisdiction.

“We should continue our fire prevention program to ensure a zero fire incidents during the All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day,” Plotena said.

Plotena was designated as caretaker of BFP-Negros Occidental since last week while Superintendent Pamela Rojane Candido, provincial fire marshal, was on an official trip to Korea for 12 days.

The BFP’s alert status is raised to heightened alert.

In last year’s observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, Plotena said that there were no major fire incidents in Bacolod.

He said the firefighters will distribute flyers and intensify its “rekorida” within their areas of responsibility.

The BFP reminded the public to be vigilant during this occasion.

“Always switch off the main source of power before leaving the house. Be careful in using of lighted candles, and keep matches and lighters away from the reach of children to avoid fire incidents,” the agency said.
